Yesterday, I concluded my post this way, “The time has come to consider our fears of a self-destructive apocalypse for what they truly are – a portend of the world without God, or at least where we subjugate God to filling our desires instead of seeking His desires.  These apocalyptic visions keep driving us to solve our own problems.  Maybe they should drive us to seek God’s wisdom.”  I wrote that after the day before discussing the rash of church closures across the nation.  The juxtaposition of the posts raises an interesting question, “Are people not turning to the church or, is the church not worth

Tales of the A.I induced apocalypse seem to have come and gone.  The president seems to have put the final shovel of dirt on that grave last weekend.  No one cares about climate change much anymore.  Funny how that talk waxes and wanes with opportunities to put socialist policies into place.  So, what’s the catastrophe selling industry supposed to do?   Why up the ante – of course.. . .

Books and stories about books about the “tsunami” of church closings.  It’s no secret, it’s happening and it is real.  I have had the unfortunate experience of watching it happen – more than once.  Persecution of the church is very real.  And yet, the persecution the church faces in America today is miniscule and insignificant compared to history, even modern history in other parts of the world.  A lot more is changing than just what people do on Sunday mornings.  So what is going on here?. . .

Back when I lived in California, every Friday in a small walking/shopping district that my wife and I walked thru most evenings a little protest was conducted.  On the busiest corner stood roughly a dozen or so very aged old hippies holding up signs saying very silly things like “War is over if you want it.”  In all honesty it was more a nostalgic gathering of a bunch of grass-addicted seniors than anything else.  But soon, on the opposite corner roughly the same number of military veterans of the same age started to show up each Friday waving the flag and wearing whatever remanent of their uniforms would still

Jesus famously said, “the truth will set you free.”  So famous is the phrase, in fact, that I have seen it engraved on the side of university buildings.  If Jesus said it, it must be a good thing, but even a good thing can go too far.. . .

In the last paragraph of his book, “Now It Can Be Told,” General Leslie M. Groves, head of the Manhattan Project, writes, “In answer to the question, ‘Was the development of the atomic bomb by the United States necessary?’  I reply unequivocally, ‘Yes.’  To the question, ‘Is atomic energy a force for good or evil?’  I can only say, ‘As mankind wills it.'”  Wise words to contemplate as mankind struggles with its latest “catastrophic” invention – AI.. . .

“Politics is downstream of culture,” as Andrew Breitbart always said.  Therefore, a weekend of college football is more informative than one might suspect.  If this weekend past is any indication, the portents are not good.  Two incidents in particular signal the coarsening of our culture and our politics is to continue apace.. . .
