What Do We Know About The Drone Strike?
Going on the offensive in Afghanistan is a good thing. Full Stop.
But…
Is this a return to the Clinton policy of military action for the sake of the camera? A policy that Bush 43 viewed rather disdainfully.
In all honesty, I don’t know what to believe. See here’s the thing, an attack of this sort is based on intelligence that we, the general public, simply cannot know the source of. If the sources were known publicly they would be compromised. So all we have to go on is the government’s word.
Normally that would be good enough for me. But this administration is suffering from a severe credibility crisis. The last ten days have revealed an administration with little knowledge of actual conditions on the ground in Afghanistan. I don’t know if this strike really hit someone important in ISIS-K or if it hit a random vehicle. For that matter, how do we know the strike went off at all? Have we seen footage from the drone showing the hit? I haven’t seen any. And if we see it how do we know it’s not file footage?
That’s the position we are in right now. Credibility squandered is hard to regain.
