Knowing Evil

Sometimes it’s too easy.  Harris misquoted scripture yesterday – really badly.  I could carry on for quite a while making fun of her ignorance of faith and her general illiteracy.  But to be honest, I’ve met people at church that made the same mistake.  Biblical illiteracy exists even among the faithful.  Far more worrying is the fact that Harris and Democrats generally have no understanding of genuine evil – something even the illiterate faithful understand.

A minor example – California has massive, genuine problems.  From homelessness to crime to the fact the state is dead broke and busted they have issues.  So what have they spent the last 24 hours trumpeting as a major accomplishment – they banned plastic bags altogether.  That’s it.  People defecating on the street, stores having huge chunks of their inventory wiped out in minutes by gangs of thieves and they are worried about litter!?  That is a fundamental failure to see not just problems, but evil.  Leaving people living in the streets indicates a massive lack of compassion.  Allowing thievery to go unchecked is an endorsement of crime.

But nothing compares to the Biden/Harris stance on the current conflicts in Israel.  They keep talking about “a deal.”  Now, bear in mind what happened on October 7.  It was not warfare – you do a deal to end a war.  What happened on October 7 was Jeffrey-Dahmer-level evil – you don’t deal with that, you cage it, or better yet, you destroy it.  To deal with evil on that level is to act as if it has it has any legitimacy, as if it can be justified in some fashion.  There is no legitimacy, no justification for the acts of October 7; therefore, there can be no deal.

Fortunately, genuine evil is rare.  But it is very real.  What’s horrifying is that all of us are capable of it.  We are trained from birth not to go there, but absent that training I hate to contemplate the state of the world.  What’s most frightening about Harris is not her ignorance, it’s her failure to recognize such evil on those rare occasions when it does show its face.  And in failing to see it and decry it – to deal with it even – she encourages it, fosters it.

The danger of a Harris administration goes far beyond out-of-control inflation or bad roads.  The danger of a Harris administration will encourage evil – it will permit and encourage more events like October 7.  It is easy to make fun of Harris, but such downplays the fact that she is dangerous.

ADDENDUM.  Hyper-left Slate published a piece yesterday by a writer that attended an old-school tent revival that claimed prophetic power for Trump.  It would be easy to dismiss it as the “crazy right,” which it is.  Such people are a distinct minority.  Yes, they have raised their heads too high in events like Jan 6, but in general they are left in the quiet corners of far rural and wilderness America.  But given that I just decried the Left for failing to recognize evil, I should not make the same mistake.

Claims of prophecy are generally associated with a particular branch of Christianity called Pentecostalism.  Like most movements it is a spectrum. The vast majority of Pentecostals are good people that practice their faith with a lot of glossolalia and faith healing.  But they can, in the thrall of what they believe are miracles, go too far.  I have personal stories involving people dear to me of the conviction in faith healing resulting in death and disability.  At some point, faith too can cross the line into the promotion of evil.

For the record, Jan 6 or potential events like it do not represent true Christianity.  Such events are wrong, and can be evil.
