Harris – Spam In A Can

“The Right Stuff,” book, movie and miniseries, is a wonderful telling of America’s first manned space program – Mercury.  Seven men, fighter pilots chosen from the armed forces, were chosen to be America’s first people in space.  At one point in the program, they staged a revolt because NASA planned for them to be passengers – not pilots, the entire flight controlled from the ground.  They complained “We’re just Spam in a can!”  I could not help but think about that when I read this story about a Harris town hall.

Here’s the meat of the matter:

At the start of the event in Royal Oak, NBC News’ Maria Shriver admitted to an attendee that they were “not, unfortunately” going to be able to ask their own questions. She then tried to soften the blow with a bogus response on how the “pre-uh, determined questions, and I’ll hopefully be able to ask some of the questions that might be in your head, I hope so.”

The piece includes video showing Shriver actually saying that.  So, after a series of disastrous interviews with people who are question asking professionals, they are not letting Harris handle questions from the far less trained general public.  It’s pretty clear that Harris is not piloting her own campaign.  Like the Mercury astronauts, she is Spam in a can, just along for the ride as the media front person.

The current occupant of the White House is a bumbling, barely functional old man – a Democrat.  Who is running the government?  When his bumbling grew too public and too intense, Democrats, as if by magic, had a new candidate in the chamber and ready to fire that by all appearances is Spam in a can.  Whose campaign is this really?  I can’t answer those questions – can you?  I doubt it.

So, our choice is between a man that, as we discussed yesterday, is clearly in charge of his own destiny and a woman who simply serves as a front for people unknown.  But our choice is deeper than that.  It’s a choice between an accountable government and an unaccountable one.  If we know who is in charge, we know who to and not to vote for – that’s accountability.  But with Harris we do not know who, in reality, we are voting for – it’s certainly not her, it’s the people controlling her flight from the ground and we do not know who they are.

My choice is made – I voted early yesterday.  I voted for an accountable government.
